Every AI video tool you have tried works the same way. You buy credits. Each clip spends them. Run out in the middle of a project and the work stops until you top up.
For a business making video every week, that meter never stops running. Ten seconds here, a re-render there, and the monthly bill climbs while the output stays flat.
There is another way to do this, and it costs nothing per clip. The generator runs on hardware you already own, or that you can rent for an afternoon. You paste a prompt, you get a video, and nobody counts how many you make.
What "Open Source" Actually Changes For You
The tools you know, the ones with a credit counter, run on someone else's servers. You send a prompt, their machine does the work, they bill you for the compute. That is the whole business model.

ComfyUI is the free local app most people use to run open video models. You load a "workflow" into it, which is a wired-up diagram of steps, and that gives you the knobs the reel showed: camera movement, visual style, scene design. It looks intimidating on day one and stops being intimidating by day two.

If You Want It Working Today
Get the desktop build. Install it, point it at the model file it asks for, and you have a prompt box and a Generate button. This is the shortest line from zero to a first clip. You give up some of the fine control, and in return you do not have to learn anything new.
If You Want The Control The Reel Showed
Install ComfyUI. Drop the LTX model files into its models folder. Load a text-to-video or image-to-video workflow, and the project ships example ones so you are not building from a blank canvas. Now you have nodes for camera motion, style, and scene, which is where the cinematic look actually comes from.
Either path downloads a few gigabytes of model files on the first run. That happens once. After that you are offline and uncapped.
Done. You have a generator on your own machine and no credit counter anywhere in it.

Use this one when you already have a good product photo. The still carries how the thing looks, and the prompt only tells it how to move. If the motion comes out wild, do not rewrite the whole thing. Say it plainly on the next run: "less movement, keep the product still, only the background drifts." Short corrections land better than long rewrites.
Where A Business Actually Uses This
The point is not to make art. The point is to make the video your business needs without a shoot and without a meter.
Product shots that move. One catalog photo becomes a three-second rotating clip for the shop page or an ad. You already own the photos, so the input is free too.
Social filler between the posts that matter. A short atmospheric clip for a Reel or a Story, made in the time it takes to write the caption, without booking anyone.
Ad variations you can afford to throw away. Make ten versions of the same fifteen-second concept and let the weak ones die. Per-clip pricing usually kills this idea before you start, because every test costs money. When the clips are free, testing ten is as cheap as testing one.
Rough b-roll for a pitch. Show a client the direction with three cinematic shots before anyone books a camera. If they hate it, you spent an evening, not a production budget.
One warning on quality before you build a whole workflow on this. AI video looks fake most often because the face or the product drifts between shots, not because the tool is bad. On a hard hero shot with lots of motion, the best hosted tools still pull ahead, because they run bigger models than a single GPU can fit. So the honest answer is not that the free tool wins every frame. It wins on cost and volume. You trade the top few percent of quality for the ability to make as many clips as you want at no marginal cost, and for most business video that trade is not close.

Honest: The Limits You Should Know
